Nature, Good schools & Safety - Why Dun Laoghaire & Howth are the best two places to live in Dublin - Part 1

Being an expat who recently came to Dublin and also being a father of a two year old toddler, it was very important for me to search for a place to live in the county where not only I but my family feels safe, comfortable and where we can enjoy life to the maximum while also reaping benefits of closeness to work and access to amenities and schools.

I had lived in the areas of Dublin 8 previously near Phoenix Park for 6.5 months. While the area was great an near the city center it was not the ideal place to raise a family. Being a person who loves nature and the sea I had explored Dublin (on foot I must say) to many places and found out two best places to live in. Howth and Dun Laoghaire.

While I have moved to Dun Laoghaire recently I will list down for all of you parents searching for a place to move / live in.

Finding the place:

You need to download the Daft.ie or homemove.ie app to search for the places you are looking for in your budget. There are 1000's of listings every week. Remember to utilize Daft.ie lettings FREE contract service if you want to save over 500 Euros instead of hiring a lawyer :)

Be prepared to dish out from 2000  - 3000 Euros / month I must say as these areas come with a cost to live !

Safety:

While Dublin ranks 33rd in Numbeos survey for city safety, I believe each area has its pros and cons. While I was surprised that odd numbers like Dublin 5, Dublin 7, Dublin 9 were considered as risky and dangerous and all even numbered towns like Dublin 8, Dublin 12, Dublin 4 are considered as less risky and nice. It all depends on your budget plus your likeness about the area. I suggest you go on foot and explore the area especially over the weekends and in the night (in a cab / GoCar offcourse).
