Mountains, the Baltic sea and Castle - You get this all in a Hike to Howth [Video]
Dublin has its fair share of rain and wet weather and since I have been here, funny that I saw people getting out when the sun shines which is quite the opposite of what I experienced back in Pakistan. It was boring Sunday on the 30th of August 2020 and I wanted to do something fun.
Out came Google maps and I found that there is a beautiful hiking trail in the opposite side of the city to where in live in Howth. This village in Dublin is one of the most posh and affluent areas in Ireland (no doubt such beauty exists there).
Reaching there at 2 Pm after leaving my home at 12 noon, I hiked along the pathway for about 1.5 hours and enjoyed, which I can surely say was probably the best day in Dublin so far. I literally has sang junoon songs from my childhood to even singing summer of 69 by Bryan adams. While I was hiking hiking towards lighthouse, I met a beautiful couple from France who helped me capture all my crazy pictures. Be sure to capture stunning views from above the sea.
The most interesting part was when I was video calling with my wife and daughter and my wife was saying to me about how I am enjoying my bachelor life ;) [Married Men out there please don't hate me]
Checkout the video that will give you a glimpse of the trip
How to Get There:
From the city center you can take the Bus number 43 or from Phoenix Park (where I live) you can catch Bus number 17 which directly takes you to the hiking trail at Howth and just in 2.5 Euros only.
Places To Eat:
I took my own lunch and a pack of biscuits to enjoy as I was not sure that the restaurants or cafes would be open or not due to the lockdown. I saw this beautiful cafe names Rogers Inn which was full of people enjoying the sunny sunday while gulping beers and eating pizza while enjoyed irish music with refreshing sips of ginger ale.
Places To Explore:
- Howth Castle - Located just 45 minutes from the parking of cliffs of Howth. I originally was not planning to go there but oh man was this serene. This was built by the earl of Howth almost 1000 years ago and currently serves as a private residence and also a cookery school.
- Bog of Frogs Trail : No No don't think that there are frogs over here, its actually a beautiful trail where in the rainy / monsoon season a ton of frogs come out and there is a ribbitt tone all over the area.
- Tramline loop: If you are the kind of person who likes to go on a ferry trip or catch a boat and eat live fish caught from the sea or even sit at a cozy restaurant, you just have to walk 30 minutes more from the bus drop off and enjoy the time. I will personally be exploring this in October...
Don't Forget To:
- Be sure to wear a face mask during your travel in the bus as you might be facing 2000 Euros fine if you do not.
- Wear your hiking shoes
- Wear something you are comfortable in (I wore a shirt which was not appropriate lol)
If you are new to Dublin or even have been here for a while, before the WINTER ARRIVES, I would surely say to you, go out forget about staying at home and enjoy the beauty of the mountains, the Baltic sea and trails of Howth.
And thats how the cookie crumbles ...
Coool !
